After Care

For surgical procedures that are ambulatory:

Example: You come to Guatemala for a gastric lapband procedure:

• Day 1: You arrive on a Sunday afternoon or evening, and are being escorted to your hotel
• Day 2: On Monday morning you go for your first Specialist visit and undergo all the pre-operation tests on the same day
• Day 3: On Tuesday your surgery is being performed and you stay Tuesday Night at the hospital
• Day 4: On Wednesday morning after the Specialist´s visit, you are being released from the hospital and transferred to a hotel nearby, in a residential zone
• Days 5 & 6: On Thursday and Friday you take it easy and remain in your hotel in Guatemala City while your convalescence is being monitored by the Bariatric Surgeon and a Nutritionist.  Daily visits by your Medical travel Facilitator as well
• Day 7: On Saturday you can leave for the week-end for Antigua, a charming colonial town 25 miles from the capital, where you can enjoy a relaxing mini-vacation
• Day 9: On Monday you return to Guatemala City to the hospital, where your Specialist Doctor will remove the sutures
• Day 10: On Tuesday, you can board a flight to return home

For surgeries where you need to remain 4 days at the hospital:

Example:  You come to Guatemala  for a Gastric Bypass:

• Day 1: You arrive on Sunday pm or eve, and are being escorted to your hotel
• Day 2: On Monday morning you go for your first Specialist visit and undergo all the pre-operation tests on the same day
• Day 3: On Tuesday your surgery is being performed and you stay Tuesday night at the hospital
• Day 4, 5, & 6: You will remain at the hospital Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night and will receive daily follow-up visits by the Specialist Doctor, by the Nutritionist, as well as by your Medical travel Facilitator
• Day 7: on Saturday morning you leave the hospital and are being escorted to your hotel nearby, where you will pursue your convalescence during the week-end
• Day 9: on Monday morning you visit your Specialist Doctor again, who is going to remove your sutures and give you all the instructions on how to proceed further
• Day 10: on Tuesday, you can board a flight to return home

Affordable aftercare:

If you want to prolong your convalescence, we can provide affordable aftercare in the quaint colonial town of Antigua, 30 miles from the capital (one hour´s drive)
