The 3rd edition of “Service Summit”, the bi-annual convention of Guatemala´s exportable services, took place place on 29 and 30 September 2011 at the Westin Camino Real in Guatemala City. Companies from Guatemala´s Tourism sector, such as Medical Tourism, Wellness Travel and Sustainable Tourism met with buyers from Usa, Canada, France, Spain and other Latin American countries.

AGEXPORT, the Event organizer, reported 120 scheduled business meetings and two successful Famtrips for U.S. and European companies. Insurance brokers and Medical travel consultants from the U.S. participated in a familiarization tour of Guatemala City´s private hospitals and specialty clinics, that was organized by Agexport´ Health & Wellness Tourism Commission. As icing on the cake, visitors were invited to spend one day at thermal Spa Santa Teresita and in colonial Antigua.

Read the testimonials of U.S. medical travel experts and learn what they have to say about Guatemala´s organizations and private healthcare:

Jose Aroeste, Principal of Sekure Healthcare, CA : “…I am surprised and did not know about the level of advanced medicine available in Guatemala with similar technology available as in the US hospitals. The problem in the US is that healthcare costs are much more expensive and people cannot longer afford them; ..the solution for them is to travel here because they can obtain medical services for one tenth of the cost…” http://www.elperiodico.com.gt/es/20110930/economia/201718/

P.S.: Agexport, the Guatemalan Exporters Association is a private non-profit entity, established in 1982, that represents and promotes non traditional exports of Guatemalan businesses. Call centers, Digital content Development, Communication Technologies; Laboratories and Medical Tourism all belong to the so-called Exportable Services. for more information on Agexport, its members and its Health & Wellness Tourism Commission, see: www.export.com.gt

The following 5 foreign national parks are among the outstanding places that the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees (CNPSR) recommended.

1.TONGARIRO N. P., New Zealand.
2.KAKADU N. P., Northern Territory, Australia
3.SNOWDONIA N. P., Wales, Great Britain.
4.KRUGER N. P., South Africa
5.TIKAL N. P., Guatemala.

This World Heritage Site of TIKAL contains the spectacular ruins of a Maya settlement from around 250-900 AD. The towering ruins of temples, one 70 meters tall, rising from the jungle that surrounds them, are mute testimony to the architectural genius of the Maya. As many as 90,000 people lived in Tikal at its zenith, but strife with neighboring towns and environmental stress caused its abandonment beginning in the 10th century. A thrill of a visit is to see it with a Maya guide.

“When it comes to something a bit different, our readers recommend the black volcanic sands of Monterrico, Guatemala. Located on the Pacific coast, Monterrico differs from the calm waters and soft sands of other popular vacation spots—its powerful waves are suitable for only the strongest swimmers. Aside from the challenging surf, most people come to see the endangered sea turtles that use the beach as a nesting ground.
